We are fortunate to experience four wonderful seasons here in the north Georgia mountains. But this is the time of year when weather can change quickly. As I’m writing this blog in early February, the north Georgia mountains received 5+ inches of snow after starting the week with a 70-degree sunny day. In between, we have had rain, rain and more rain (over 5 inches in some areas) leading to some local and regional flooding (https://gilmer.fetchyournews.com/2020/02/06/gilmer-shuts-down-under-flood-warning/ ). If your mountain home is susceptible to flooding, roof leaks or water seepage into the basement or elsewhere, you really need the services of a property management company like Cabin Keeper to keep a check on your home before permanent damage occurs. More rain is on the way again for most of next week which will lead to more flooding from ground that is already fully saturated. We live here in Fannin County so it is quick and easy for us to inspect for storm property damage to you mountain home!
Water is one problem but if you live in the south, you know that as winter transitions to spring we often see stormy weather. Here in the mountains we like to have our homes nestled in among the trees to not disturb the natural beauty of the home-site. That presents problems when severe weather rolls through. Winds blowing, often in excess of 50 MPH, can not only knock limbs from trees but can blow over trees, particularly on already saturated ground. Lightning can hit nearby trees and jump to your house and fry breakers as well as your home electronics. At a minimum, it is not uncommon to lose power for a few hours as dedicated power crews work to repair nearby power lines.
It’s early February and we’ve already seen some severe storms. Seems like they come earlier and earlier each year. If you worry about the impact that storms may have on your home while you are away, it might be time to consider having a property manager available to check on your home after storms. Here at Cabin Keeper, we have no long-term contracts and very reasonable pricing. We’ll make a dedicated trip to your home for just $50 and that includes us not only checking the property and outside of your home, but also checking inside to ensure you are not having leaks and your major appliances are still working. We’ll even reset the timers and thermostats after those too frequent power outages we see here in the mountains.
If we do find damage to your home or property, we’ll advise you of the issues and extent of the problem. If it’s something we cannot handle ourselves, we can meet with your insurance adjuster or we can be onsite when contractors are scheduled to do repairs. We can even recommend contractors that we’ve done business with in the past.
Let Cabin Keeper bring you peace of mind when it comes to winter and spring weather impacts to your special mountain retreat. Please don’t wait until the storm hits to call us to inspect in and around your mountain home for storm property damage. There might be some actions we can recommend now to prevent weather-related damages. Some actions could be as simple as cleaning the gutters and removing dead limbs.
