"IT'S NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT
IT'S WHAT YOU INSPECT"

Welcome to Cabin-Keeper.
We are committed to making your second home a pleasant, comfortable, and relaxing experience.

We operate a cabin-keeper and concierge company that specializes in caring for vacation homes. Because of the line of work we are in, we saw a need for a website that would explain all the ins and outs of owning a second home. By this, we did not mean that we saw a need for a website about home maintenance or one that could provide information on renting out the property. There was an abundance of information on those topics out there. Instead, we wanted to create a site that would answer the questions and address the many mysteries that plague so many vacation homeowners today, such as how to deal with service people, why to have a key holder, information about the ever-puzzling private septic systems and wells found at so many vacation homes, and most importantly how to spend more time enjoying the home and less time working at caring for it! We wanted to address the subjects that tend to get overlooked, either because homeowners simply do not think to ask about the topics, are afraid to ask about them for fear people will find them silly, or do not know who to ask about these things. Since people are always fascinated to hear about the things we have learned in this business over the years, we also wanted to pass along helpful vacation home tips to readers. These are hints and tips that we gathered from our own personal experiences owning a vacation home, as well as tips we learned professionally by running our home-watch business. Refer to this website when you need solutions to problems at your cabin, cottage, or vacation home, or issues about running a cabin rental business.

On a daily basis, we interact with all types of vacation homeowners. This includes people who leave a primary home unoccupied in the city because of a work schedule that calls for frequent travel, people who close up a tiny cabin in the woods for the long winter, and people who own multiple homes but never use them, and many people in between. No matter what the case, all these people have something in common: They want peace of mind knowing that the place they call home is okay while they are away, and they want to be able to enjoy their homes when they come to visit.

Whether you are interested in caring for one home, multiple homes, a tiny cabin in the woods, a big mansion on the lake, a condo in the city, or a modest home in the suburbs, this website contains helpful information that applies to all these different types of homes. Primarily this site will focus on the vacation home, purchased as a second or third home, which is used only a few days, weeks, or months out of the year. The good news is that no matter where your home is located or what type it is, caring for it when it is left vacant is generally the same. There are some special considerations for homes that are isolated, as most vacation homes are. We address those concerns.

Your home is probably one of your most valuable investments, so taking the time to learn about it and properly maintaining it are the keys to making the most of enjoying your home and seeing a return on your investment in the future.

Two things will be most important to enjoying and making the most out of your vacation home experience. These things are being and informed homeowner and applying your knowledge. There are a lot of people out there who know what they are supposed to be doing to care for their homes, but choose not to do it. More than that, there are many people who just do not realize all the responsibilities that come along with owning a vacation home and all the special attention that a vacation home needs. Even though the home may be vacant for long periods of time, it is extremely important to maintain it if you do not want problems. If you do not want to maintain it or do not have the time to maintain it properly, you should consider finding someone else (an individual or a company) to do this for you.

On this site, we will reveal tips on maintaining your special retreat. Some of these tips you may have learned before, but never knew why they were important. Hopefully some of the tips will be new to you, and you will learn something. It is a good idea to refer to this site often, whenever you have questions about your vacation home. New content is added every few days to our blog , which is an ongoing source of helpful information on maintenance and security presented in an entertaining manner.

Congratulations on taking the time to read this informative website. You are well on your way to becoming a highly informed vacation homeowner, which means you will have more time to enjoy your special home and less time dealing with problems. You will have the ultimate vacation home experience.
